Coaches Pick Men's Soccer Third in Big West Aug. 12, 2004 Fullerton, Calif.
The Cal State Fullerton men's soccer squad was picked to finish in a third-place
tie in the Big West Conference in 2004 according to a vote of the conference's
coaches released by the league office on Thursday afternoon.
The Titans received 21 points and finished in a tie for third with county
rival UC Irvine. In a wide open vote, the Titans received two first-place
nods along with Cal State Northridge.
The Matadors and UC Santa Barbara, which both represented the Big West
in the NCAA Tournament last season, were picked to share the league title,
receiving 29 points. The Gauchos also received a first-place vote, as
did the Anteaters.
Rounding out the poll was UC Riverside and Cal Poly with 14 and 12 points,
respectively.
Cal State Fullerton returns six starters, including
second-leading scorer Ignacio Cid. The Titans open the year with a pair
of exhibition matches against Cal State Dominguez Hills (Aug. 21) and
Blue Star (Aug. 28) before officially opening the regular season on Sept.
3 against UC Riverside in the Soccer Town Classic.
