The UC Irvine men’s soccer team (5-8, 1-3) scored on a pair of cornerkicks
and defeated the Cal State Fullerton Titans (2-7-2, 1-3) Saturday night
in Big West Conference action at Anteater Stadium.
The Titans got on the board first with Ben Hofstetter breaking down the
field after getting a pass from Anthony Dedeaux to put Cal State Fullerton
up 1-0 at the 16:11 mark. The Titans would take a 1-0 lead into the half.
Sophomore Brandon Tario knocked a corner kick into the box in the 63rd
minute for the Anteaters. The ball was collected by sophomore Brad Evans
and sent towards the net and the ball was finally sent past the keeper
by senior Lorne Howlett at 62:23 to tie the game at 1-1.
Freshman Damon Manak scored his first career goal off a corner kick by
sophomore Doug Franco at 80:48 to give the Anteaters a 2-1 lead.
Titan keeper Matt Cowan had five saves in the match. Senior keeper Cameron
Rossi had 11 saves on the night for the ‘Eaters.
