Titans Beat Blue Star in Final Tune-Up
Aug. 28, 2004 – Fullerton, Calif.

Ignacio Cid and Alfredo Tapia scored second-half goals to carry Cal State Fullerton to a 3-2 victory Saturday over Blue Star (development team) in the final men's soccer exhibition prior to the 2004 season.

Cid blasted in a shot from about 20 yards in the 17th minute of the second half to break a 1-1 tie. Tapia headed in a cross from Allen Chote about 10 minutes later for what proved to be the decisive score when Robbie Rogers scored for Blue Star with approximately 5 minutes to play.

Fullerton had taken a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Chote set up German Moreno for a header. Blue Star tied it in the final minute of the first half when Steve Patterson knocked in a penalty kick.

Fullerton opens its season and the Big West Conference schedule Friday night at home against UC Riverside. The match is part of a tournament that also includes UCLA and Oakland University.
