Titans Ranked No. 10 in Preseason Poll
Jan. 29, 2003 – Fullerton, Calif.

The Cal State Fullerton softball team will open the 2003 regular season as the No. 10 team in the nation according to the first top 25 rankings released by the National Fastpich Coaches Association on Wednesday morning. It is the highest preseason ranking for the Titans in the last five years, matching the No. 10 rank received before the start of the 2002 campaign.

The Titans, who posted a 53-13 overall record in 2002 and advanced to the postseason for the 21st time in 23 seasons, also finished last year ranked No. 10.

UCLA will begin the season as the top team in the land, receiving 18 of 22 first-place votes and 543 points overall. Arizona and defending National Champion California each received two first-place votes and were seleced second and third, respectively. Michigan and Nebraska were tied for fourth to round out the top five.

Cal State Fullerton will face 15 teams ranked in the top 25 -- including seven of those in the top 10 -- with the possibility of facing eight more teams either ranked in the top 25 or receiving votes in tournament play over the next month and a half.

The Titans are coming off a pair of exhibition victories over the Spanish National Team by the scores of 24-1 and 8-0, both in five innings, on Tuesday night at the Titan Softball complex. Cal State Fullerton will open its regular season on Friday (Jan. 31) as one of five teams competing in the second annual Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament hosted by UCLA.
