Doubles Point Proves Crucial in Titan Victory March 19, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
The doubles point proved
to be crucial on Wednesday afternoon as the Cal State Fullerton womens
tennis team eked out a 4-3 victory over visiting Amherst College at the
Titan Tennis Courts.
The Titans snapped a three-match losing streak in improving to 4-10 overall
on the year. Amherst College, which came in ranked seventh in Division
III, fell to 8-3 overall.
Freshman Ruya Inalpulat and junior Ioana Sisoe won at No. 1 doubles, 8-5,
while teammates Adriana Hockicko and Brittany Minna clinched the doubles
point at No. 2 doubles, 8-3. Amherst College won at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
The two teams then split the six singles matches as Inalpulat, Sisoe and
Caroline Freeman won their respective singles matches to clinch the victory.
Only Sisoes victory over Amhersts Hadley Miller went three
sets as Sisoe triumphed, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday (March 22) at 1 p.m.
as the Titans host Saint Marys College.
