Titans Fall to UCSB In Big West Opener
Feb. 6, 2003 – Fullerton, Calif.

Cal State Fullerton freshman Nicole LaBrucherie posted the Titans lone singles victory on the day and the doubles team of Adriana Hockicko and Brittany Minna posted a win at No. 3 doubles, but UC Santa Barbara was too tough to handle, handing the Titans a 6-1 defeat in the Big West Conference opener for both schools on Friday afternoon in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Cal State Fullerton falls to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in league play while UCSB improved to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the Big West.

LaBrucherie defeated the Gauchos’ Lindsey Butterwick, 5-7, 6-1 (10-4) in a tiebreaker at No. 5 singles to earn Fullerton’s lone point. UCSB took two out of three in doubles play to open the match and take a 1-0 lead before winning five of six in singles play.

Hockicko and Minna defeated UCSB’s Butterwick and Jen Kuhle, 8-4, in doubles play.

Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 8) as the Titans face Santa Clara at 10 a.m.
