Singles Play Lifts Tigers to 5-2 Victory March 29, 2003 Fullerton, Calif.
The Cal State Fullerton
womens tennis team won the doubles point to begin the match, but
Pacific proved too be to tough in singles play, winning five of the six
matches on the day en route to a 5-2 Big West Conference womens
tennis victory on Saturday afternoon at the Titan Tennis Courts.
Cal State Fullerton fell to 4-14 overall and 0-6 in league matches on
the year as the Titans have lost eight of its last nine matches. Pacific
improved to 5-12, 3-4.
Fullerton opened by taking the doubles matches at the No. 1 and No. 2
positions to clinch the doubles point and go ahead 1-0. Freshman Ruya
Inalpulat and junior Ioana Sisoe won a hard-fought 9-7 victory at No.
1 doubles while teammates Adriana Hockicko and Brittany Minna won at No.
2 doubles, 8-2.
However, singles play proved to be the difference as the Tigers won three
of the six matches in straight sets while Pacifics Jaimee Brenner
and Urska Dvorsek posted three-set wins on the afternoon. Cal State Fullertons
Caroline Freeman posted the Titans lone singles victory on the day,
defeating Melissa Selmanson, 6-1, 6-3.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Tuesday (April 1) as the Titans
travel to Logan, Utah, to take on Utah State at 1 p.m.
