Women's Tennis Downs Cal State Northridge Feb. 19, 2004 Fullerton, Calif.
The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team claimed the always-crucial
doubles point on Thursday afternoon and it proved to be the difference
as the Titans edged visiting Cal State Northridge, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon
at the Titan Tennis Courts.
The match was a make-up after the originally scheduled meeting on Wednesday
was washed out due to rain.
Cal State Fullerton improved to 4-3 overall, 1-3 in the Big West. The
victory was the first Big West win for the Titans since defeating UC Riverside,
4-3, on April 17, 2002 a string of 12 consecutive matches.
The Matadors fell to 1-5 overall, 0-3 in the Big West.
The doubles pairings of Ruya Inapulat and Carla Rocha along with teammates
Gina Le and Nicole Arias won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles by the identical
scores of 8-6 to give the Titans a 1-0 lead.
The two squad would then go on to split the six remaining singles matches,
with Le, Rocha, and Caroline Freeman all posting straight-set victories
to clinch the match.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Sunday (Feb. 22) when the Titans
play host to Pacific at 11 a.m.
