Pepperdine, Long Beach State Win Titles Oct. 12, 2003 - Fullerton, Calif.
Pepperdine's Karin Schlapbach and the Long Beach State doubles pairing
of Tammy Day and Nicole Bouffler put forth championship efforts on Sunday
in the final day of play at the 2003 Cal State Fullerton Fall Intercollegiate
tournament at the Titan Tennis Courts.
Schlapbach, who entered the tournament ranked No. 7 in the main draw of
the tournament, defeated UC Santa Barbara's Andrea Pintar, 6-1, 6-1, in
straight sets to win the singles crown.
Day and Bouffler, who entered the tournament as the No. 2 seed, defeated
teammates Lindsey Marvel and Alanah Carroll, 8-4, to bring home the doubles
championship trophy.
In the consolation bracket, UCSB's Leslie Damion was the singles champion,
defeating the 49ers' Carroll, 8-1, while the Long Beach State duo of Claudia
Argumedo and Krystina Katayama defeated Cal State Fullerton's Caroline
Freeman and Ashley Dunbar, 8-5, to clinch the consolation championship.
