Titans Claim Dual Match Win Over Point
Loma, 5-2 Oct. 22, 2003 -- San Diego, Calif.
The Cal State Fullerton women's tennis team got off to a good start in
its dual match season, downing Point Loma, 5-2, on Wednesday afternoon
in the final tune-up for the ITA Western Regional Championships that begin
on Thursday.
Cal State Fullerton improved to 1-0 overall.
The Titans took early control of the match as the doubles teams of Gina
Le and Ioana Sisoe along with teammates Ashley "Chip" Dunbar
and Caroline Freeman won at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to clinch the first point
of the match.
Fullerton then dominated singles play, winning four of the six to clinch
the match. Freshmen Mai-Ly Tran and Gina Le earned their first collegiate
victories with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles respectively.
After competing at the ITA Regional Championships this weekend, the Titans
will take the rest of the winter off before opening the 2004 season against
Cal Poly on Jan. 17.
