Cal State Fullerton has partnered with local elementary schools through TITAN ELITE, a program that encourages academic excellence and outstanding citizenship and promotes going to college for Orange County youths. Titan Elite is designed to encourage students to succeed in and out of the classroom by offering exciting incentives. Titan Elite will acknowledge students effort and progress by rewarding them with a ticket to a Cal State Fullerton athletic event, a Titan Elite t-shirt and bookmark. Principals and teachers participate by selecting students who show marked improvement in academics and citizenship. In addition, Cal State Fullerton athletes, coaches, and athletic personnel will visit schools to read to and interact with students to promote education and build awareness of opportunities in collegiate athletics. Titan Elite creates an optimal environment for elementary students to be recognized for their achievements and to gain awareness of the opportunities in collegiate athletics. Titans Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Maple Elementary Eight players from the Cal State Fullerton Mens Soccer team stood out amongst the 800 people in attendance at the 3rd annual Cinco De Mayo Fiesta at Maple Elementary School in Fullerton on Friday evening. The players rotated through two different booths throughout the evening. They ran the Wild Dice booth in which participants were given three chances to roll a pair in order to win a prize and a 2002 Mens soccer media guide. The other players signed autographs for many students and parents. Midfielder Gordon Kljestan stated that he, Signed enough autographs to compile a term paper. The players had a strong positive presence at the fiesta as they spoke to students and encouraged them to do well in school and to keep up their soccer skills. Students were eager to meet the players and get autographs and talk about soccer, the most popular sport at Maple, according to teacher, Jessica Humes. The players that participated in the event were Brent Barnes, Matt Cowan, Fouzi Elmojahid, Sean Gallinger, Gordon Kljestan, Hector Orellana, Kyle Polak, Andrew Sam and Mitch Wagner. According to Liz Towle, Director of Titan Elite, Maple Elementary School made the request and we happy to be able to meet their request. Our goal is to promote and support education and increase awareness of Titan Athletics in the community. This event did both. Cal State Fullerton Athletic Department was also happy to donate a gift package for the Cinco De Mayo Raffle. We were happy to donate a voucher good for two tickets to a athletic event in the 2003-2004 season, Titan Athletic t-shirt, Fullerton antennae ball, and Titan foam finger. Titan Athletics was pleased to be a part of this event. Maples event director Rebekah Harvey said, having the CSUF Men's Soccer Team at our Cinco de Mayo event and at our school throughout the year has motivated our students to stay in school, work hard and follow their dreams. They are excellent role models to our students. We appreciate their attitude and positive example.
