Proven Star, Two Sleepers Sign with Titans
DEC. 17, 2001 - Fullerton, Calif.

An established distance star and two "sleepers" have signed national letters of intent to compete in the Cal State Fullerton track and field/cross country programs beginning next year.

Jordan Horn of Alta Loma High School is rated the top distance runner ever signed to Cal State Fullerton. He placed sixth at the CIF SS Master's Meet in the 3,200 meters and also placed 16th at the state championships a week later in Sacramento. He has a personal best of 9:13.19 for the 3200 and is one of the top runners in the nation in that event. During his senior cross country campaign he finished tenth at the CIF SS Div. I final at Mt. San Antonio College. Earlier in the year he clocked a personal best of 15:02 on the rugged Mt. Sac course.

Blair Gabler is rated as one of the top returning sprinters in Northern California but is still making a name for herself. The senior at Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park was CIF NCS champion in the 100 meters. She has personal bests of 12.35 in the 100, 25.37 in the 200 and 60.01 in the 400. She also will compete for the Titan women's soccer team, which won the 2001 Big West Conference championship.

Another underrated signee is Damien Nieves of Sonora High School in La Habra. As a senior he ran 15:26 on the Mt. Sac course in the CIF Div. II preliminaries. In the finals he placed 15th.

With the addition of Horn and Nieves to a returning nucleus of Bryce Lighthall and redshirt freshman Matthew Sarton, Head Coach John Elders feels his men's team can make a serious run at the 2002 Big West Conference championship..
