Men's Relay "Three-Peat" Highlights CSF Effort
MAY 19, 2002– Irvine, Calif.

With Fred Williams substituting for the injured Brandon Campbell, the Titans' men's4x400 relay team still managed to defend its title in the Big West Conference Track and Field Championships by running 3:11.7 to win the event for the third year in a row.

Williams ran a second leg of 48.4 after Derek Brown had gotten out in 48.0. Nick McCollum ran the third leeg in 47.6 and David Ortega anchored in 47.7. The men's 4x100 team (40.44) finished second to Idaho (40.36).

Campbell was able to compete in the high jump and long jump. He defending his title in the high jump by going over the bar at 7 feet, 2 1/2 inches, which most likely will qualify him for the NCAA championships. He placed third in the long jump at 24-feet, 9 3/4 inches.

The Titan men's team finished in seventh place with 63 points. Utah State won the title, ending Idaho's two-year reign, with 180 points. The Titan women placed eighth with 37 points. Cal State Northridge won the title in its inaugural effort in the Big West.

Other Titan highlights: Anna Doty was second in the triple jump and third in the long jump; Lakeysha McClenton was third in the 800; Jennifer Clarke was fourth in the pole vault; Aaron Williams was fourth in the men's long jump; Ian Jennings was third and Cody Jones was fourth in the triple jump.
