Lanaro is Big West Pole Vault Champion
May.17, 2003 – Northridge, Calif.

Junior Giovanni Lanaro cleared the bar at 17 feet, 8 1/2 inches Saturday to win the Big West Conference pole vault championship at the conference meet at Cal State Fullerton. He was the only champion of the day for the Titans, who finished seventh in the men's competition and ninth in women's competition.

Utah State edged host Cal State Northridge by one point to win the men's team title while Idaho was a dominant winner on the women's side.

Other Titan place winners were Ian Jennings, second in the men's triple jump; Lakeysha McClenton, second in the women's 800; Joe Thomas, third in the men's triple jump; Cody Jones, third in the men's long jump and David Ortega, third in the men's 400. The Titan men's 4x100 relay team also took second. Earlier in the meet, Jennifer Clarke took second in the women's pole vault and Lacey Welborn placed seventh in the heptathlon.
