Clarke Sets Vault Record at NCAA Regionals
May 30, 2003 – Stanford, Calif.

Jennifer Clarke broke her own school record with a pole vault of 12 feet, 10 1/4 inches Friday on the first day of the new NCAA Track and Field Regional championships at Stanford University.

Clarke's efforts earned her a share of tenth place. Only the top five in each event advance to the NCAA championships.

Other Titan competitors on Friday were: David Ortega, fifth in his heat in the men's 400 meters; Lakeysha McClenton, 8th in her heat in the women's 800 meters; and Aaron Williams, who fouled out in the men's long jump. The men's 4x100 relay team finished third in its preliminary heat and qualified for today's finals.

Fullerton's best hope for a regional championship is men's pole vaulter Giovanni Lanaro, who has the third best jump in the nation this year at more thanm 18 feet. He already has qualified for nationals based on his previous heights, assuming he gives "an honest effort" at today's meet.
