Women's Relay Record, Jumpers Pace Titans Mar. 22, 2003 Sacramento, Calif.
Another school record in the women's 4x400 relay and a strong showing
by both the men and women's horizontal jumpers highlighted Cal State Fullerton's
efforts at a six-team track and field meet Saturday at Sacramento State.
The women's relay team ran 3:47.70 to break the mark of 3:48.52 set earlier
this season.
Tosha Thomas won the women's long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 2 1/2 inches.
Teammates Lacey Welbon, Kelly Figueira and Mychael Westervelt placed third,
fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the women's triple jump, Westervelt was second at 38 feet, 2 1/4 inches
and Joi Webber was third at 37-10 1/2.
On the men's side, the Titans placed one-two-three in the triple jump.
Joe Thomas was the winner at 50 feet, 1 3/4 inches, with Cody Jones and
Ian Jennings both over 47 feet. In the long jump, Aaron Williams placed
fourth and Jones was fifth.
In the sprints, Fred Williams placed second in both the 100 and 200. Pole
vaulter Giovanni Lanaro placed second but cleared only 16 feet, 6 3/4
inches, more than a foot off his best jump this year.
Other Titans to take second place were Maria Blazquez
in the women's 5000, Vik Mahan in the men's 5000 and Orenda Talton in
the women's 400.
