UCSB Wins Meet, CSF Breaks Old Relay Record
Feb. 22, 2003 – Fullerton, Calif.

UC Santa Barbara won both the men's and women's competition but the highlight of Saturday's five-team track meet was the Cal State Fullerton women's 4x400 relay team breaking a 16-year-old school record.

Host Fullerton placed second behind UCSB in both men's and women's scoring. UC Riverside was third in the women and fourth in the men. Cal State L.A. was fourth in the women and fifth in the men while Cal State Bakersfield was third in the men and fifth in the women's events.

Destany Cearley, Kandace Wilson, Lakeysha McClenton and Orenda Talton combined for a relay time of 3:48.52 to win the race and break the Fullerton school record of 3:49.36 set in 1987.

In the men's pole vault, Fullerton's Giovanni Lanaro easily won the competition with a jump of 17 feet, 4 1/2 inches. He missed three attempts to clear 18 feet, one half inch, which would have been the highest outdoor mark among collegians this season.
