Junior Giovanni Lanaro shattered the Cal State Fullerton men's pole vault
record in his first appearance in a Titan uniform Saturday at the USATF
Pole Vault Summit in Reno. The transfer from Mt. San Antonio College cleared
17-feet, 4 inches to finish second behind Idaho State's Paul Litchfield,
who went 18-feet.
Lanaro's mark meets the NCAA provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA
Div. I Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in mid-March. The
old Fullerton record was 16-feet 4 3/4 inches by Dan Churchill on May
6, 2001.
Cal State Fullerton does not field a men's indoor track and field team,
only women, but Lanaro will compete as an individual until the outdoor
season begins on Feb. 22.
Other top performances by Titans in Reno included Jennifer Clarke (Soph.,
Alta Loma HS) , who cleared 11-feet-7, and Shayna Sykes of Walnut HS,
who won the freshmen division at a height of 10-feet-4.
The Titan women open their indoor season this weekend at Boise State,
where they will square off in a four-way match-up among host Boise State,
Cal and Idaho State.
