Lanaro Wins Third All-American Award
June 13, 2004– Austin, TX

Cal State Fullerton senior Giovanni Lanaro tied for eighth in the men's pole vault at the NCAA track and field championships Saturday at the University of Texas to earn the Titans one half point and himself a third All-American honor.

Lanaro cleared 17 feet, 8 1/2 inches but failed in three attempts at 18 feet, one-half inch. He attained All-American status twice in 2003 -- indoors and outdoors.

Tommy Skipper of Oregon won the event at 18 feet, 8 1/4 inches. Lanaro was tied with Bobby Most of Texas Tech, one notch below seventh-place Jon Takahashi of Cal Poly.

Senior triple jumper Joe Thomas did not make the finals after jumping 50 feet, 2 inches on Friday night. This was the first time the Titans had two individuals in the NCAA championships in the same season.
