Lanaro Makes Cut to Final 15;

Cal State Fullerton senior Giovanni Lanaro made the cut for the final
15 in the men's pole vault at the NCAA track and field championships Thursday
at the University of Texas.
Lanaro and 14 others cleared 17 feet, 4 1/2 inches to advance to Saturday's
competition. Lanaro cleared 5.15 meters on his third try and then went
over the bar at 5.30 meters on his second try. Once the field was down
to 16 or fewer vaulters, the competition was curtailed until the finals.
A second Titan will compete today. Senior triple jumper
Joe Thomas makes his NCAA Championship debut this evening in Austin, where
weather has been a problem for the first two days of the competition.
