Kenny McDaniel Is New Track Assistant Aug. 30, 2004 Fullerton, CA
Kenny McDaniel, an assistant at San Francisco State the past five seasons,
has been appointed assistant men's and women's track and field coach at
Cal State Fullerton.
McDaniel, 29, will work with the sprinters and hurdlers for Head Coach
John
Elders and Associate Head Coach Ron Kamaka. He replaces Mike Powell, who
resigned in May to concentrate on his business interests.
“I’m very excited to have Coach McDaniel join our staff. His
experience as
an athlete and his expertise as a coach will be a tremendous asset to
our
program. More importantly, his character and leadership qualities will
have
a positive impact on our student-athletes.”
McDaniel was a sprinter and hurdler at Pittsburg State in Pittsburgh,
Kansas, where he obtained a degree in general studies with an emphasis
in
physical education and nutrition in 1999. He remained as a student
assistant coach before heading to San Francisco. He also attended Blinn
College in Brenham, Texas, where he was part of an NJCAA national
championship team in 1995, and Kansas City Community College in Kansas
City, Kansas.
McDaniel still competes in post-collegiate events
with recent times of 10.70 in the 100 meters and 22.33 in the 200.
At SF State he coached an NCAA Div. II national qualifier in the 100 meters
this past season and his women's relay teams were ranked in the national
Top
15. He coached the team MVP in three of the past five seasons.
McDaniel also coaches his fiancee, LaKiesha Givens. She was among the
nation's best in the 100 meters with a personal record of 11.50, which
set a
San Francisco State meet record in April.
