Horizontal Jumpers Star in Outdoor Opener Mar. 6, 2004 Los Angeles, CA
Cal State Fullerton won the long jump in both men's and women's competition
in the outdoor-season-opening quadrangular track and field meet Saturday
at UCLA.
Mychael Westervelt won the women's long jump at 18 feet, 11 3/4 inches
and also placed second in the triple jump at 37 feet, 3 3/4 inches while
Aaron Williams was winning the men's long jump at 23 feet, 6 1/4 inches.
Williams also ran fourth in the 400 meters.
UCLA won both the men's (240.5 points) and women's (238) competition with
Cal Poly running second (men 189.5 and women 127), Cal State Fullerton
third (101 men and 117 women) and Cal State L.A. fourth (men 74 and women
71).
Other top Titan efforts included Giovanni Lanaro placed second in the
pole vault on more misses while clearing 17 feet, 5 3/4 inches; Joe Thomas
placing second in the triple jump at 48 feet, 8 3/4 inches; Destany Cearly
second in the women's 400 meter hurdles at 1:03.21; and Lakeysha McClenton
second in the women's 400 at 57.52.
