Women’s Basketball Wins Exhibition Opener, 82-66

The Cal State Fullerton women’s basketball team had five players in double-figures for the game as the Titans kicked off their 2001-02 season with an exhibition victory over The Firm on Thursday night in front of 116 fans at the Titan Gym.

Cal State Fullerton has one exhibition game remaining on Thursday (Nov. 8) at 7:30 p.m. as it faces Love and Basketball at the Titan Gym.

Junior post Heather Hansen led the Titans with a double-double on the evening, scoring 14 points and grabbing 14 rebounds on the night. Senior Tricia Lamb, making her debut in a Cal State Fullerton uniform after transferring from Washington State, scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out four assists in 23 minutes of play.

Freshman Catherine Holman had 14 points and nine boards in her debut while sophomore Tamara Quinn and senior Chante Gifford added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Rachel Rosario led The Firm with 15 points and eight rebounds on the night.
For the Titans, the 82 points scored were the most in any game (exhibition or regular season) dating back to 1999 in an 86-77 victory over San Jose State. Fullerton shot 44.6 percent from the floor and held a 50-43 advantage in rebounding.

The Titans led by as many as 14 points in the first half and shot a blistering 53 percent from the floor en route to a, 46-32, lead at the break. In the second half, Fullerton extended its lead to 21 points just seven minutes in and eventually led by 23 points with 4:07 remaining.

A late 17-7 run by The Firm brought them to within 13 points at 79-66 with just :34 seconds remaining, but the Titans responded by hitting 3-of-4 from the free throw line to close out the contest.
