Titans'
Second-Half Rally Falls Short at Fresno State Dec. 3, 2001 Fresno, Calif. Box Score The Cal State Fullerton women's basketball team outscored Fresno State 40-29 in the second half while shooting .485 from the floor, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 21-point halftime deficit as the Bulldogs hung on to defeat the Titans, 75-65, in front of 460 fans at the North Gym. Cal State Fullerton fell to 1-3 overall on the season as the Titans kicked-off a three-game road trip. Fresno State snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-2 overall on the year. Titan junior center Heather Hansen recorded her second straight double-double on the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 14 rebounds - just one board short of her career high set last season against Portland (12/28/00). Senior forward Tricia Lamb had 18 points for the Titans, her highest point total in a Fullerton uniform. Sophomore Rochelle Ortega, who prepped at Fresno's Roosevelt HS and played one season at Fresno City College before transferring to Cal State Fullerton, made her return to the Central Valley a strong one, adding 12 points, eight rebounds and a blocked shot in her first career Division I start. The Titans, who trailed by as many as 24 points in the second half, put together an 11-2 run to close to within 15 points at 63-48 with 7:44 remaining in the game. Fullerton continued to press, eventually whittling down the lead to seven points at, 67-60, with just under two minutes to play. After a jumper and a free throw by Omelogo Udeze put FSU back up by 10 points just 21 seconds later, senior guard Lindsay Sotero hit her second three-pointer of the half to close the gap once again to seven points with 1:17 remaining. However, with the Titans forced to foul, Fresno State went 6-for-6 down the stretch from the free throw line to ice the contest. The first half was the Lindsay Logan show for Fresno State, as the junior guard exploded for 22 points, including six three-pointers, in just 12 minutes of play. Logan scored 13 of the team's first 15 points of the game and finished the half shooting 8-for-10 from the floor and 6-for-7 from three-point range. However, the Titan defense contained the all-conference junior after the break, as she hit only 2-of-9 from the floor and was 0-for-4 from long range. Logan finished with a game-high 27 points, three assists and three steals. Freshman Aritta Lane had a double-double for the Bulldogs, scoring 11 points and grabbing 11 rebounds while Udeze came off the bench to add 17 points and seven rebounds. The Titans shot just .286 from the floor in the first half (8-for-28) compared to the Bulldogs' .600 (18-for-30). Cal State Fullerton held the advantage on the boards, outrebounding FSU, 40-39, but the Bulldogs were able to capitalize on the Titans' 18 turnovers with 13 steals and 18 points off turnovers. Fullerton next hits the road to the Pacific Northwest to take on a pair of opponents at the end of this week. The Titans will take on Eastern Washington on Thursday (Dec. 6) before heading to Spokane to take on Gonzaga on Saturday (Dec. 8). Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
