Titans Fall on the Road to Idaho, 67-53 Feb. 22, 2003 -- Moscow, Idaho
Box Score
Heather Hansen had 11 points and 10 rebounds for Cal State Fullerton,
but the Titans fell to Idaho, 67-53, in a Big West Conference women's
basketball game in Moscow Saturday night.
The Vandals improved to 9-15 on the year and 7-7 in the Big West Conference.
The Titans fell to 6-17 and 4-8.
The Vandals opened the game with a three-and-one-half-minute scoring drought,
but managed to play strong defense in the interim. When UI did get on
the board, the score was tied at 2-2. For the next 11 minutes the teams
traded baskets and neither team led by more than five points.
With 5:17 left before the intermission, Amber Pruitt hit a layup to cut
Idaho's lead to 21-19. From that point, however, the Vandals fashioned
a 16-2 run to end the half to lead 35-19 at the break. Keisha Moore was
the driving force behind the spurt as she dropped in half of UI's points.
The Vandals began the second half much the same way they ended the first
period. Idaho held Fullerton to seven points during the first seven minutes
of the half and led 46-26 with 13 minutes to play. That's when the Titans
began a run of their own to get back into the contest.
Fullerton began to press and the result was a 25-9 edge during the next
nine minutes. Tamara Quinn scored six of those points and Heather Hansen
and Nikki Lee each added five to close within two baskets. With four minutes
to go the score was 55-51 and the Vandal lead seemed in jeopardy.
Thoelke led the Vandals with 18 points and she also chipped in nine rebounds
and five assists. Keisha Moore notched her eighth double-double of the
season with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Freshmen Autumn Fielding and Breann
Sitton dropped in 16 and 10, respectively, to round of the double-digit
scorers.
Rochelle Ortega added 10 points while Quinn finished with nine for Fullerton.
