Feb. 15, 2003 –Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

Casandra Reeves and Crystal Harris each scored 15 points Saturday night to lead UC Riverside to a 69-58 Big West Conference women’s basketball victory at Cal State Fullerton.

The win improved the Highlanders’ record to 6-16 overall and 3-8 in the Big West. Fullerton got 13 points each from Nikki Lee and Rochelle Ortega but fell to 6-16, 4-7. For Lee it was a season high.

Reeves hit back-to-back 3-point field goals with about 4 minutes remaining in the first half to break a 22-22 tie and give UCR a 28-22 lead it would not relinquish. The advantage grew to as many as 19 points at 62-43 before the Titans outscored UCR 15-7 in the final 5:34.

Fullerton’s only lead of the game came at 19-18 and 20-18 after free throws by Andrea Adams and Ortega, the latter with 6:00 to go in the first half.

Fullerton outrebounded UCR, 45-37, led by Heather Hansen with 10, but gave up that advantage by committing 26 turnovers to the Highlanders’ 15. Fullerton shot only 32 percent form the floor compared to 41 percent by UCR. Harris hit 7 of 11 shots as UCR swept the season series.

Fullerton’s starting guards, Adams and Audrey Taylor, combined to make only 3 of 24 shots.

Fullerton goes on the road next week, playing at Idaho on Saturday.
