Nebraska Pulls Away Late to Beat Titans, 78-60
Dec. 11, 2002 – Lincoln, Neb.

Box Score

Cal State Fullerton senior Heather Hansen notched her fifth consecutive double-digit scoring performance with 17 points, but it wasn't enough to combat three Nebraska players with double-doubles as the Cornhuskers pulled away late to defeat the Titans, 78-60, on Wednesday night in a non-conference match-up in Lincoln, Neb.

With the loss, Fullerton falls to 1-6 overall on the season, losing its last six straight after a season-opening victory. Nebraska improved to 4-2 overall.

Hansen added six boards and a block in 32 minutes of play while hitting on 7-of-13 from the floor. It was her sixth double-digit scoring performance in the Titans' seven contests this season.

Junior Rochelle Ortega and sophomore Melanie Mosley were second on the team with six points on the night. Ortega added six rebounds to tie Hansen for the team lead. Every player on the Titan roster saw action on the night with everyone scoring at least one point, including freshman guard Audrey Taylor, who had missed the last four games with a shoulder injury.

Nebraska was led by center Katie Morse, who had 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five blocked shots -- just one short of tying the school single-game record.

Forward Alexa Johnson had 15 points and 10 rebounds while Shahidrah Roberts added 14 points and 11 boards. Guard Margaret Richards had 12 points, six boards and five assists on the night.

After trailing by 10 at the half, 42-32, and by as many as 27 points in the game, the Titans battled back after the break, closing to within eight points at 52-44 with 13:35 remaining. However, the Cornhuskers used a 23-4 run, holding the Titans to just one field goal over the next 10:16 to extend the lead to 75-48 to clinch the victory.

Cal State Fullerton shot just under 38 percent for the game compared to Nebraska's 42.3 percent. The Cornhuskers outrebounded the Titans, 47-42, and forced 24 turnovers which they turned into 28 points.

Fullerton returns to action on Saturday night (Dec. 14) when they host San Diego at 5 p.m. at Titan Gym. The game will be broadcast live on 1370 AM KWRM and simulcast on the Internet at www.TitanSports.org.

The women's game is the first of a doubleheader with the men's team, who will face Idaho State at approximately 7:05 p.m.
