Gillian dHondt scored a game-high 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting,
leading two other Tigers in double figures, as Pacific rolled to an 82-54
victory over host Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night in a Big West
Conference womens basketball match-up at Titan Gym.
The Titans fell to 6-18 overall and 4-9 in the Big West Conference while
the Tigers improved to 12-13 overall, 9-5 in league play.
Cal State Fullerton was led by its freshman backcourt of Audrey Taylor
and Andrea Adams, who each poured in 16 points on the night. For Taylor,
who was also 6-for-11 from the floor, the scoring output was a career-high,
besting the 11 points scored twice this season. Adams was 4-of-11 from
the field (three of those three-pointers) and a perfect 5-for-5 from the
line. Juniors Nikki Lee and Rochelle Ortega led the team with five rebounds
apiece.
Aside from dHondts performance, Vanessa Dupont added 14 points
and a game-high eight rebounds on the night, while Jasmine Ewing came
off the bench to score 12 points and grab three rebounds in the victory.
Pacific scored 19 of the first 25 points of the contest, building a quick
13-point advantage. The Titans battled to cut the lead to eight points
with 12:56 remaining, but an 11-4 run by the Tigers put them up by 15
with 8:46 remaining and Cal State Fullerton could come no closer.
The Tigers led by as many as 19 in the first half and 28 points late in
the game. Pacific shot 49 percent from the floor (compared to the Titans
29.3 percent) and outrebounded Fullerton, 42-33. The Tigers also went
to the line 40 times in the contest, making just under 78 percent of their
free throws.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday night (March 1) at 7
p.m. as the Titans salute their three outgoing seniors: Heather Hansen,
Allyson Alhadeff and Jennielee Greslie, before their game against Cal
State Northridge at Titan Gym.
