22 Gauchos Shut Down Titans, 69-33 Jan. 4, 2003 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score UC Santa Barbara junior center Lindsay Taylor scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead three other players in double figures as the No. 22 Gauchos shut down host Cal State Fullerton, 69-33, in a Big West Conference womens basketball game on Saturday night at Titan Gym in front of 304 fans. The Titans fell to 3-9 overall and 1-1 in the Big West while the Gauchos improved to 7-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play. UCSB has won the last 17 consecutive contests in the series against Cal State Fullerton and now leads the all-time series 24-22. Taylor was one of two Gauchos to notch double-doubles on the night as sophomore forward Brandy Richardson added 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Senior guard Jess Hansen and junior guard Lisa Willett were also in double figures, tallying 11 and 10 points, respectively. Cal State Fullerton was led offensively by junior guard Tamara Quinn, who had six points on the night. Junior center Rochelle Ortega led the Titans with six rebounds. It is the first time this season that a Cal State Fullerton player has failed to score in double figures. The Gauchos opened the game with an 18-3 run en route to a 38-10 halftime lead. Cal State Fullerton hit just 3-of-25 (.120) from the floor in the first half, setting season lows for field goals made and field goal percentage in a half for the year. The Titans were held scoreless for the first 5:54 of the contest and hit just 1-of-14 from the floor in the opening nine minutes of the game. Freshman Andrea Adams knocked down a three-pointer at 14:06 to get the Titans on the board, but the Fullerton offense could not find the basket, going scoreless once again for the next 5:35. After Quinn hit 1-of-2 from the line at the 8:31 mark, the Titans would not score again until 3:53 remaining in the period and went into the lockerroom trailing by 28 points. Cal State Fullerton picked things up in the second half, however, shooting 33 percent from the field (10-for-30). UCSB set a season high for rebounds by a Titan opponent by grabbing 54 rebounds compared to Fullertons 28. The Gauchos shot .455 from the field for the game while the Titans hit on just under 24 percent from the floor for the contest. The 33 points are a season low for Cal State Fullerton, eclipsing the previous low of 40 scored at Loyola Marymount on Dec. 2. The Titans also set season-lows for field goals made (13), field goal percentage (.236) and assists (11). Fullerton returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 9) as they take on cross-county rival UC Irvine at 7 p.m. at the Bren Center. ####
