Finish Strong to Beat Titans Jan. 9, 2002– Fullerton, Calif. Portland, OR - The Portland State wrestling team fell behind early but came storming back, winning the final four bouts of its Pac-10 dual meet with Cal State Fullerton to secure a 26-15 home win at the Peter W. Stott Center on Wednesday. Junior Randy Davidson's major decision over Bryan Webster at 197 pounds proved to be the winning match, giving the Vikings an insurmountable eight-point lead, 23-15, heading into the final bout of the dual meet at 285 pounds. It was sweet justice for Davidson, who fell in the deciding bout of Portland State's loss to Southern Oregon this past Friday. The Vikings (3-6, 1-3 Pac-10) received an opening match pin by sophomore Casey Kotter at 125 pounds, but quickly dropped the next three matches to fall behind, 12-6. A pin by 157-pound sophomore Ryan Thomas squared the dual at 12-12, but junior Shawn Keinonen came up just short against the Titans' Chris Carlino in the 165-pound bout, losing a 5-4 decision. Carlino is currently ranked third in the conference at 165. Sophomore Quinn Collett evened the score at 15, winning 4-2 versus Zac Elliot at 174 pounds, and senior Jeremy Wilson gave the Viks the lead for good with a dominating major decision over Titan Shawn Henebry at 184. For Wilson, currently ranked No. 15 in the nation by InterMat, it was career win 103, tying him with the legendary Rick Sanders for fourth on Portland State's all-time win list. Wilson improved to 9-0 in duals this season and is 20-3 overall. Heavyweight Eric Mustoe, a sophomore, capped off the scoring with his first career major decision, 9-2, against Fullerton's Edgar Hernandez. The Titans (0-8, 0-5) and Vikings will hook up again later this week as both teams are participating at the Oregon Classic Duals in Redmond on Friday. PSU is also scheduled to wrestle Simon Fraser and Air Force at tournament.
