Cal Poly Hands Titans Their First Loss
Dec. 15, 2002 – San Luis Obispo, Calif.

The Cal Poly SLO wrestling team defeated Cal State Fullerton, 24-12, Sunday at Mott Gym to begin its 2002-03 dual meet schedule while handing the Titans (4-1, 2-1) their first loss of the season in the Pac-10 match.

The Mustangs took the lead immediately with a major decision win by Ryan Halsey in the 184-pound match over Brian Webster, who was filling in for the injured Rowdy Lundegreen. Dan Howe followed suit with a major decision over
Edgar Hernandez in the heavyweight match, followed by a Vic Moreno major
decision over Frank Sanchez in the 125-pound match for a large 12-0 lead. Cal Poly then went on to win four of the next six matches.

Fullerton's points came from Juan Mora, an overtime winner by decision at 141, and Risto Marttinen, who won a decision at 165. Chris Carlino picked up the other six points via forfeit at 174.

Both teams next compete at the Reno Tournament of Champions this weekend.
