Four Cal State Fullerton wrestlers are
still alive at the Pac-10 championships at Boise State after the conclusion
of Sunday's first two sessions.
Juan Mora (141), Chris Carlino (174) and Rowdy Lundegreen (184) were beaten
in the championships semifinals by their respective brackets' No. 1 seed
and must win their next match to have a shot at an NCAA Tournament berth.
Landon Seefeldt (197) lost his opening bout but scored a pair of victories
in the consolation bracket to put himself in the same position -- in the
final six of his weight class.
No. 4-seeded Mora, who originally advanced by beating Mike Unger of Oregon
State, 11-2, at 141 pounds, lost to Dana Holland of Arizona State, 9-1.
Mora next faces Chris Brines of UC Davis.
No. 4-seeded Carlino, who earlier beat Parick Owens of Boise State, 5-4,
at 174 pounds, lost to No. 1 seed Curtis Owen of Arizona State, 11-3.
Carlino faces Harold Penson of Stanford tomorrow.
No. 4-seed Lundegreen, who earlier beat Ronnie Renzi of Arizona State,
19-5, and then Bryan Travers of Cal State Bakersfield, 9-3, lost to No.
1 seed Ryan Halsey of Cal Poly, 5-3. He must face No. 3-seeded Tony D'Amico
of Boise State on his home mat.
Seefeldt must wrestle No. 1 seed Jason Lovell of Oregon State. Seefeldt's
last win came over Oregon's Elias Soto by a 3-2 decison.
David Rodriguez (133) and Bryan Webster (hvy) each won one match before
being eliminated. Robert Valenzuela (125), Brett Gordon (149), Dustin
Vance (157) and Risto Marttinen (165) each went 0-2.
