All Four Titans Eliminated at NCAA Finals Mar. 19, 2004 -- St. Louis, MO
All four Cal State Fullerton wrestlers competing in the NCAA Championships
in St. Louis have been eliminated.
Leonel Sanchez advanced the furthest, going 2-2 in
the 174-pound bracket despite spraining an ankle in his opening bout.
Friday he stayed alive in the consolation bracket by beating Imad Kharbush
of Stanford, 4-3, but then was beaten by Mitch Hancock of Central Michigan,
13-5.
Juan Mora (141 pounds) went 1-2 despite receiving a gash in his chin in
his first bout that required several stitches. He won one consolation
bracket bout before losing to Jesse Brock of Boise State, 10-2.
At 197 pounds, Landon Seefeldt, who lost his first bout in overtime, had
to take a medical withdrawal due to a dislocated hip suffered in his first
match, allowing Joel Weimer of Ohio University to advance. On Thursday,
Jesse Miramontes lost both of his bouts in the 125-pound bracket.
The Titans' combined record was 3-8, an improvement over last year's 0-8
performance.
