Navy Sails in for Titan Wrestling Opener Nov. 10, 2004 -- Fullerton, CA
A United States Naval
Academy athletic team makes a rare appearance
at Cal State Fullerton Friday night when the Midshipmen visit Titan Gym
to help the Titans open their 2004-05 wrestling season with a dual match
beginning at 7 p.m.
Navy has one tournament under its belt but will be opening its dual match
season against Fullerton, which returns four NCAA qualifiers from last
year's third-place Pac-10 Championships team. It's the first meeting between
the two schools in wrestling and maybe any sport on the Fullerton campus.
Navy is on a California trip that will take it to Cal Poly and Cal State
Bakersfield on Saturday.
Navy is coming off a 12-4 dual match season and a sixth place conference
tournament showing that produced three NCAA qualifiers. Seven regulars
return. Navy has a 72-man roster including 12 133-pounders.
Fullerton features 174-pounder Leonel Sanchez, 125-pounder Jesse Miramontes,
141-pounder Juan Mora and 197-pounder Landon Seefeldt. Newcomers to watch
in their Titan debut are 184-pounder Jesse Taylor and 157-pounder Angelo
Lago, each of whom was a California state community college champion last
season for Palomar.
