Cal Poly Overcomes Fullerton Lead in Pac-10 Match Feb. 12, 2005 -- San Luis Obispo, CA
Ralph Garcia beat No. 10-ranked Landon Seefeldt in
overtime at 197 pounds Saturday afternoon and that provided key points
for Cal Poly SLO as the Mustangs nipped Cal State Fullerton, 20-19, in
a Pac-10 wrestling match.
That 5-3 win drew the Mustangs to within 13-7 and
Cal Poly, which had lost the first four weight classes, went on to win
the next three matches to build an insurmountable 20-13 lead that withstood
a pin by the Tians' Juan Mora at 141 pounds in the final contest.
FIn the battle of nationally ranked wrestlers at 125
pounds, Cal Poly's No. 5-ranked Vic Moreno beat Fullerton's No. 19-ranked
Jesse Miramontes, 14-4.
Fullerton is now 13-4-1 on the season and 5-2-1 in
the Pac-10. The Titans host Wyoming at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the final dual
matach of the year and need a win to equal the school record for dual
match victories in a season.
