Sweep in Idaho Gives Titans 4-0 Road Trip Jan. 30, 2005 -- Boise, ID
Back-to-back pins by Risto Marttinen at 165 pounds
and Leonel Sanchez at 174 powered Cal State Fullerton to a 28-17 Pac-10
wrestling victory Sunday afternoon at Boise State. Coupled with a 23-17
non-conference victory later in the day against Montana State-Northern
(six-time NAIA Div. I national champions including 2004) the wins gave
the Titans a 4-0 road trip and improved their best -ever season record
to 13-3 overall and 6-1 in the Pac-10.
The host Broncos, who had won four consecutive dual matches including
a 34-6 romp over Montana State-Northern on Sunday, held an 11-9 lead over
Fullerton after the first five bouts. But the Titans won the next four
matches beginning with Morgan Atkinson's decision at 157 pounds to win
going away.
In the featured bout of the match between two Top 20 national wrestlers,
the Titans' Jesse Miramonte decisioned Andrew Hochstrasser at 25 pounds,
11-8.
