Strong Finish Carries Titans Past Ducks Jan. 28, 2005-- Eugene, OR
Juan Mora put the Titans
ahead to stay and Cal State Fullerton would end up winning the final four
bouts for a 29-12 Pac-10 wrestling victory Friday afternoon at the University
of Oregon.
Mora decisioned Skyler Woods, 13-6, in the 141-pound bout to give Fullerton
a 13-12 lead. Jeff Silva (149) followed with a decision and Morgan Atkinson
(157) and Risto Marttinen (165) each pinned his man to give Fullerton
a 17-point victory to improve to 10-3 overall and 3-1 in Pac-10 dual matches.
Leonel Sanchez started the match off successfully at 174 pounds with a
12-4 major decision over Shane Webster. Jesse Taylor got a decision at
184 before Landon Seefeldt defaulted (rib cage injury) at 197. Oregon’s
Cody Parker decisioned the Titans’ Chris Chambers to give the Ducks
a 9-7 lead. Jesse Miramontes (125) edged Joey Lucas to put Fullerton back
ahead, but the Ducks regained the lead one final time when Martin Mitchell
beat the Titans’ Paul Tice at 133.
Tonight the Titans wrestle at Oregon State in Corvallis.
