Titans Open With Win Over Stanford Nov. 19, 2004 – Fullerton, CA
Senior Juan Mora scored the only pin of the day while
teammates Landon Seefeldt and Jesse Taylor scored major decisions to help
lift Cal State Fullerton to a season-opening victory over Stanford on
Friday afternoon in a three-mat extravaganza on high school wrestling
day in front of 1,637 fans.
The Titans won six of the 10 matches on the day, highlighted by Mora's
pin which came at 6:37 of the 141-pound weight class. Seefeldt opened
the meet with a 12-4 major decision over Stanford's Shawn Ritzenthaler
and Jess Taylor secured the victory for Fullerton with his 13-3 major
decision over Mark Egesdal in the next to last bout of the afternoon.
Paul Tice, Risto Marttinen and Leonel Sanchez also scored decisions in
their bouts, including Sanchez's come-from-behind 8-6 win at 174 pounds,
outscoring his opponent 4-2 in the final period.
NAIA power Embry-Riddle defeated a Cal State Fullerton "B" squad
in an exhibition by a 27-6 score with Shawn Reilly and Craig Wilkerson
each scoring decisions for the Titans.
On the third mat, Santa Ana College defeated Palomar College, winning
eight of the nine bouts wrestled, two coming by default. The Dons scored
three major decisions and got a first-period pin from Johnathan Keene
at 157 pounds en route to the win.
Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Saturday morning (Nov. 20) at
9 a.m. as the Titans host the Fullerton Open at Titan Gym.
