All Five Titan Seniors Score in Season-Ending Win Feb. 13, 2005 -- Fullerton, CA
Leonel Sanchez (174) and Juan Mora (141) recorded pins to lead all five
Cal State Fullerton seniors to victories Sunday afternoon in the season’s
final dual match, a 28-15 victory over Wyoming.
The win enabled the Titans to tie the school record for dual match victories
in a season at 14 and their winning percentage of .763 (14-4-1) is a new
standard. The Cowboys fell to 5-8-1.
Mora’s pin decided the match in the ninth bout after the teams had
alternated victories in the first eight contests. Mora extended a narrow
18-15 lead to an insurmountable 24-15 margin when he pinned Garrett Desmond
in 37 seconds. Jeff Silva followed with a 14-6 major decision over Carter
Downing to account for the final score.
Jesse Miramontes (125) won his final Titan bout by a 13-6 count over Bryce
Leonhardt while Landon Seefeldt (197) took a forfeit in his finale.
The only non-senior to win for Fullerton was redshirt freshman Morgan
Atkinson, who opened the match with a dramatic 8-7 win over Kyle Dye.
Atkinson scored a takedown in the final four seconds to tie the score
and the riding time point gave him the win.
The Cowboys got decisons from Gary Dack at 165, Sam Wendland at 184 and
Tyson Shatto at 133 plus a pin from heavyweight Dusty Hoffschneider.
Fullerton’s next competition is the Pac-10 Championships in San
Luis Obispo Feb. 27-28. Wyoming hosts North Dakota State on Saturday.
