Navy Starts Quickly to Beat Titans Nov. 12, 2004 -- Fullerton, CA
Heavyweight Tanner Garrett
and 133-pounder Sam Gray scored major decisions and Navy won the first
four matches Friday night as the Midshipmen beat Cal State Fullerton,
23-12, in the season opening wresting dual match for both schools.
Jesse Miramontes pinned Joe Baker in only 23 seconds of the 125-pound
bout to highlight the Titans’ performance. Leonel Sanchez (174)
in overtime and Landon Seefeldt (197) scored the only other Fullerton
wins as Navy won the first four matches to jump out to a 12-0 lead.
In a high-scoring match at 184 pounds, John Kane of Navy outscored Jesse
Taylor, 15-6, in the third period as Taylor struggled with an injured
left shoulder.
Navy competes Saturday against Cal State Bakersfield and Cal Poly SLO.
Fullerton returns to action next Friday with a 2:30 home meet against
Stanford and Embry-Riddle.
