Five Pins Pave Way for Pair of Titan Wins Jan. 3, 2005-- Fullerton, CA
Landon Seefeldt (197), Jesse Miramontes (125) and Leonel Sanchez (174)
all scored pins Monday night to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 32-15 Pac-10
Conference wrestling victory over visiting Portland State and a sweep
of a doubleheader that began with a 36-9 win over San Francisco State.
Fullerton is now 5-1 in dual matches this season including 2-0 in Pac-10
competition.
Seefeldt and Miramontes’ pins were wrapped around a forfeit loss
at heavyweight and left the Titans with a commanding 16-6 lead after four
bouts. Risto Marttinen clinched the match with a major decision at 165
pounds over Chris Feist and Sanchez added an exclamation mark with his
pin of Josh Gustafson to complete the night’s action.
Earlier in the evening, Juan Mora and Morgan Atkinson scored consecutive
pins at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively, to pace Fullerton to a non-conference
victory over San Francisco State.
The Titans lost only the 157-pound bout to the Gators’ Jaime Alvarez
and forfeited the heavyweight match.
Mora had only a 3-2 lead over Donald Lockett before pinning him in 6:32.
Atkinson made short work of Pacific Garcia, pinning him in 37 seconds.
The Titans also got major decisions from Seefeldt at 197, Paul Tice at
133 and Shawn Reilly at 165.
Fullerton competes this weekend at the Lone Star Duals in Grand Prairie,
Texas.
