Titans Beat Cal Poly to Set Up Showdown w/ UCSB

Deena Milller and Erica Jacalone each scored in the first 22 minutes and Laura Janke made those two goals stand up Friday night as Cal State Fullerton defeated Cal Poly SLO, 2-1, in Big West Conference women's soccer action.
       
The win improved the Titans' mark to 11-6 overall and 6-1 atop the Big West Conference.  It also sets up a showdown Sunday at UC Santa Barbara where the host Gauchos also are 6-1 after a 2-1 win Friday over UC Riverside.  Cal Poly fell to 6-8-4 and 3-2-2 and mathematically was dethroned as two-time defending Big West champions.
       
The Mustangs scored in the 36th minute on an unassisted goal by Alexa Jontulovich, but Janke defended  the 1-point margin the rest of the way.  Fullerton was outshot, 15-10, and Janke made 6 saves to 5 by counterpart Greta Shirdon.
       
Millers's goal was unassisted at the 13-minute mark and Jacalone scored off an assist from Kellie Cox at 21:52.
       
The Titans conclude the regular season Nov. 9 at UC Riverside.
