Pioneers
shutout Titans, 1-0, in FILA Classic Opener Sept. 1, 2001 – Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Denver junior Camile Flenniken scored in the 22nd minute and the Pioneers made it stand up as they posted a, 1-0, victory over host Cal State Fullerton in the first match of the 2001 FILA Classic on Saturday afternoon at Titan Stadium. The Titans fell to 0-1 overall on the season while the Pioneers improved to 1-0 overall on the season. Titan sophomore keeper Laura Janke made five saves on the afternoon, but let Flenniken’s goal slip by when she came out to challenge the Pioneers’ Kerri Weaver. However, Janke, Weaver, and another Fullerton defender collided and Weaver got a toe on the ball, poked it to Flenniken in the middle of the box, who buried it into a wide open net from nine yards out for the game’s lone score. Cal State Fullerton threatened in the second half, sending numerous crosses through Denver’s box, but could not connect.
