Late Tally
Pushes Titans Past LMU, 1-0 Sept. 21, 2001 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Cal State Fullerton junior midfielder Jaimianne Doddridge tapped home a long cross from teammate Jenny Mescher and the Titan defense turned away a handful of scoring opportunities as host Cal State Fullerton shutout Loyola Marymount, 1-0, in non-conference women's soccer on Friday night at Titan Stadium. The Titans improved to 2-4-0 overall on the season and snapped a three-match losing streak to LMU dating back to 1996. The Lions fell to 1-4-0 overall on the season. Loyola Marymount appeared to get on the board first in the 38th minute as Jill Dobens put home a rebound off the post on teammate Erin Fahey's shot. However, the referee disallowed the goal, calling Dobens offside and play continued. Both teams played a tight scoreless first half before the Titans got on the board in the 69th minute. Mescher made a long run down the right sideline and crossed the ball into the box where Doddridge was making her run. Mescher's cross deflected off LMU goalkeeper Kelly Yukihiro's hands, then off the crossbar, before finding the feet of Doddridge on the goal line, who poked it in for the match's lone goal. LMU had three solid chances to tie it, two of those coming on free kicks from about 18 yards out and another on a turnover in the box that was headed wide. Titan goalkeeper Laura Janke was superb in net for Cal State Fullerton, making nine saves and facing 14 shots from the Lions' offense to earn the shutout. Cal State Fullerton returns to action on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. as they take on winless Southern Utah (0-6 overall) at Titan Stadium. The Thunderbirds lost to Northern Arizona on Friday afternoon, 3-0.
