Bannister
Strikes Again in Overtime, Titans win 2-1 Oct. 21, 2001 Fullerton, Calif. Box Score Cal State Fullerton junior forward Michele Bannister scored the game-winning goal in the 114th minute of double-overtime and helped lead the Titans to a 2-1 Big West Conference womens soccer victory on Sunday afternoon at Titan Stadium. Cal State Fullerton improved to 10-5-0 overall and 5-1-0 in league action. It is the first 10-win season for the Titans since 1996 when they went 16-6-2. UC Irvine fell to 6-5-1, 3-1-1. Bannisters game-winner came with just 6:01 remaining in the match and was assisted by senior Tennli Ulicny, her second of the day. Sophomore Nadia Hernandez kicked things off, crossing the ball over the top of the box where it was deflected by an Anteater defender. Ulicny then settled the ball and flicked it on to Bannister, who buried the ball far post from about 18 yards out. It was the second time this season that Bannister has won the match for the Titans in double overtime, posting the game-winner in a 2-1 decision over Pacific on Oct. 7. UCI took the lead midway through the second half as Caroline Kabe scored from 10 yards out to the far post for the 1-0 advantage in the 68th minute. However, Fullerton would tie things up in the 73rd minute, as freshman Kellie Cox scored her seventh of the season. Ulicny somersaulted the ball from the left sideline where it hit off the hands of UC Irvines goalkeeper Sarah Swancutt and found the chest of Cox, who pushed it in to knot the match. Swancutt made nine saves on the afternoon while Titan keeper Laura Janke earned her eighth victory of the season, making seven saves. Fullerton outshot UCI, 27-12, and had the majority of scoring opportunities throughout the match. The Titans will hit the road for their final four matches of the season, traveling to San Diego on Oct. 28 to take on the Toreros at 1 p.m.
