Titans Earn Early Season Honors from Soccer Buzz Aug. 19, 2002 Fullerton, Calif.
Thanks to the success of the 2001 campaign, the Cal State Fullerton women's
soccer team has earned some early-season recognition from Soccer Buzz,
an online magazine devoted to women's collegiate soccer.
The Titans are receiving votes in the 2002 west region preseason poll
based on last year's performance when Fullerton posted a 13-7 overall
record, won the school's first-ever Big West Conference crown in the sport
and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history.
The Titans join San Diego, and USC in the receiving votes category. Altogether,
Fullerton will face three programs ranked in the preseason top 25 (Portland,
Saint Mary's and Washington) and two more receiving votes in their respective
regions (San Diego and Loyola-Maryland).
Soccer Buzz also gave high marks to head coach Ali Khosroshahin and his
coaching staff, ranking Fullerton's 2002 recruiting class at No. 22 in
the nation and No. 6 in the west region. Only perennial national contenders
UCLA, Arizona State, Stanford, California and Brigham Young were ranked
ahead of the Titans in the region.
Cal State Fullerton returns 11 letterwinners and eight starters for the
2002 campaign which kicks off on Saturday (Aug. 31) as the Titans host
the inaugural Soccertown Classic at Titan Stadium.
