Bardsley Named Buzz Freshman All-American
Feb. 5, 2003 – Fullerton, Calif.

Cal State Fullerton freshman goalkeeper Karen Bardsley continued to add to her postseason honors on Wednesday after being named to the Freshman All-America second team as well as earning two other regional honors by Soccer Buzz, an online magazine devoted to collegiate women’s soccer.

Bardsley (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala HS), who earlier in December became one of just five Titans in school history named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s All-West Region third team, was also named to the Soccer Buzz All-West Region second team and was also named as one of 16 players to the region’s All-Freshman squad for 2002.

She became the program’s first-ever Big West Conference Freshman of the Year and also earned a spot on the All-Big West second team after posting a 0.96 goals against average and averaging 5.18 saves per match – both of which ranked third in the conference. Bardsley was 12-3-1 overall in the net for the Titans with three shutouts and an .846 save percentage.

Her 88 saves and 1502 minutes played last season placed her fifth on the school’s career list in those respective categories, while the three shutouts have her tied for fourth all-time.

Cal State Fullerton finished the 2002 season with a 12-5-1 overall record and a 6-3 mark in the Big West Conference, good for third place.
