Bardsley
Named to Elite Team of the Week Sept. 18, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. Cal State Fullerton freshman goalkeeper Karen Bardsley added another honor to her short collegiate career on Wednesday, named as one of 11 players to the Soccer Buzz National Elite Team of the Week. She is the third Titan in the history of the program to be so honored, joining Michele Bannister (Oct. 10, 2001) and Kim Houg (Nov. 7, 2001), who earned the honor last season. Bardsley (Chino Hills, Calif.), who was named the Big West Conference Co-Player of the Week on Monday, made 24 saves, allowed just three goals and faced 47 shots in two matches against top 25 opposition at the Nike Portland Invitational last weekend in Portland, Ore. Against the host No. 6 Pilots, Bardsley faced 23 shots on the afternoon, making 12 saves in the Titans overtime 2-1 loss. Two days later, she made 12 more saves while facing 24 shots in helping Fullerton notch a 1-1 tie with No. 12 Washington. Bardsley stands atop the Big West Conference with 31 saves (6.20 spg) and is fifth among regular goalkeepers in the conference with a 0.94 GAA. She is the cornerstone of a Titan defense which ranks tied for second in the league in goals against and third in the league in GAA. Cal State Fullerton (3-1-1 overall) returns to action on Friday (Sept. 20) as the Titans host Loyola College (Md.) at 7 p.m. at Titan Stadium. #### ####
