Titans
Make History with First National Ranking Oct. 7, 2002 Fullerton, Calif. After winning its first-ever Big West Conference championship and making its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2001, the Cal State Fullerton womens soccer program continues to make history in 2002 as the Titans broke into the national rankings for the first-time ever, standing at No. 25 in both the Soccer Buzz and Soccer America Top 25 polls released on Monday morning. The Titans had been receiving votes in the Soccer Buzz national poll for the past three weeks, coming off of victories over San Diego State and San Diego, a 1-1 tie with nationally-ranked Washington, and an overtime loss to nationally-ranked Portland in that span. It is the Titans first appearance in the Soccer America Top 25, which does not publish an others receiving votes section. Cal State Fullerton is also receiving votes this week according to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America top 25. The Soccer Times poll will be released later in the week. Regionally, Cal State Fullerton is ranked in a tie for eighth in the Soccer Buzz West Region poll, joining Southern California (5-3-3 overall) at that position. The Titans are also ranked in a tie for seventh in the NSCAA regional poll, sharing the spot with Arizona State (7-1-2 overall). The Titans (8-1-1 overall, 2-0 in the Big West) continue their quest for back-to-back Big West crowns this weekend as they host Idaho on Friday night (Oct. 11) at 7 p.m. and Utah State on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 13) at 1 p.m. at Titan Stadium.
