No. 25 Titans Roll Over Idaho, 4-1
Oct. 11, 2002 – Fullerton, Calif.

Box Score

The No. 25 Cal State Fullerton women's soccer team notched three unassisted goals on the evening as four different Titans found the back of the net in a 4-1 Big West Conference victory over the visiting Idaho Vandals on Friday night at Titan Stadium.

Cal State Fullerton improved to 9-1-1 overall on the season, 3-0 in Big West Conference action while Idaho fell to 2-7-3 overall, 0-2-1 in league play.

The Titans held a 27-8 advantage in shots, 17-4 in shots on goal.

The victory extended Cal State Fullerton's unbeaten streak to seven matches -- just one short of tying the school record of eight set back during the 1996 season. The win also lengthened the Titans' home winning streak to 12 consecutive matches.

Cal State Fullerton struck first in the 16th minute when junior Nicole Mularkey (Long Beach, Calif.) stole the ball in the Idaho half of the field and busted through two defenders. Her shot from about 25 yards out towards the far post hit the underside of the crossbar before bouncing past the line for the 1-0 lead.

The score remained that way for the remainder of the half and into the second period until senior Kim Houg (Upland, Calif.) drilled home her third goal of the season, taking a pretty through ball from freshman Erin Shelton (Rialto, Calif.) and firing far post for a 2-0 lead.

The Titans made it 3-0 in the 61st minute, as sophomore Vanessa Valentine (Encinitas, Calif.) scored off a rebound of a Houg shot in the box which was saved at the goal line by a Vandal defender.

Idaho finally got on the board in the 81st minute when Jennifer Kiebel converted on a penalty kick when her teammate was taken down in the box.

Fullerton got the goal back eight minutes later as freshman Kandace Wilson (Walnut, Calif.) stole the ball at midfield and sprinted past the lone Idaho defender, juked to right and fired past the diving goalkeeper into a wide open net to make it 4-1.

Valentine's goal in the second half marked the 12th different Titan player to score a goal this season.

The Titans return to action on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 13) at 1 p.m. as they play host to Utah State in Big West Conference action at Titan Stadium.
